The "Truth" about Establishing Goals of Care

8/16/2018 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM Eastern Standard Time

Presenter: Lisa Chapman, BSW Hospice Administrator, PruittHealth

If you gather together any group of people and ask about medical experiences, you will inevitably hear stories of friends or family members who experienced exceptionally aggressive care only to die shortly thereafter.  The question that so often follows is “Why?”.  Why did they die, despite such aggressive treatment?  Why didn’t the treatment work?  Why did they have to endure such pain?  Why didn’t I know that they were so close to death?

This accredited education session will help you, your patients and families answer this question.  Register Today!

Education Overview

As our society has become more medically, technologically, and socially advanced, truth telling in end of life care has become more complex. With so much at stake for both the patient and the care providing system, it is more important than ever that we find ways to assure that we are asking the right questions and giving the right information to the right people so that they can make the care decisions that are right for them as end-of-life becomes inevitable. Led by Lisa Chapman, BSW, this webinar will cover these learning objectives:

  • The participant will recognize potential risks involved when patients and families opt for aggressive treatment when the potential for positive outcome is poor.
  • The participant will be able to identify potential barriers to truth telling in end of life care.
  • The participant will recognize the importance of cultural considerations in end of life care communications.
